Future by Julie Houck, Plein Air Artist
Atmosphere, Light and Color

Maine

This class explores the effects of the atmosphere on the landscape and how it effects color and light relationships. Working from direct observation, we will explore how light and color influence not only what we see, but how we see it.

Questions we will pose to ourselves will be how to capture a scene's essence without falling in to merely painting the literal view? Advanced painting techniques will be covered. Open to advanced painters or those who have taken my Clouds and Skies workshop.

Abstracting the Landscape,
A Fresh Point of View

Carmel

Traditional landscape painting adheres to basic fundamental of composition, light, perspective and form. However, the landscape can also be seen as a series of abstract relationships that comprise a cohesive whole. How does one see beyond the literal view to capture the intrinsic essence of a landscape? How does one interpret a scene in a new way?

Working en plein air and in the studio, Using classical as well as direct painting techniques, this workshop emphasis is on how to create new relationships that suggest form and light versus merely rendering what one sees. Large as well as small format compositions will be covered.
